Don’t know what a Stand Up Paddle Board is? Then first view our explanation of a Stand up Paddle Board.
What is the difference with an single chamber SUP Board
Most inflatable Paddle Boards use one air chamber. This is also more than enough for normal use. A double chamber sup board, on the other hand, uses two chambers. You can see it as the board has both an outer and inner layer. A double chamber Stand Up Paddle Board offers several advantages over a single chamber Paddle board, but also disadvantages. For example, a double chamber SUP board is heavier than a Paddle Board with one air chamber. This is mainly due to the extra materials that have to be used to achieve this special construction.
Why a double chamber Stand Up Paddle Board?
Why should you purchase a double chamber SUP Board? There are several reasons for this. The main reason to opt for a double chamber board is if you go paddle boarding on rough waters. The double chamber has been marketed for safety on rough waters. With a normal Paddle Board, your board will no longer float after it has leaked air, but with a Stand Up Paddle Board with double chambers it will. This way you can paddle a lot safer on rough water! There is also another big advantage, namely the stiffness. The stiffness of a Paddle Board with a double chamber board is very good. This is because there are 2 chambers and there is an extra construction in the middle which makes the board extra stiff.
Features of a double chamber Paddle Board
Pro’s:
- Rigid, sturdy and stable thanks to the double chamber construction
- Thanks to the stiffness, the Paddle Board is extra fast
- Safer on rough water thanks to the double chambers
- Inflatable and therefore easy to carry
- Can have more weight
Cons:
- Heavier than a single chamber Paddle Board
- More expensive than a similar one-room Stand Up Paddle Board
- Less easy to fold since the board is very stiff
Characteristics of a Paddle Board with two air chambers
As mentioned earlier, a double chamber Stand Up Paddle Board is extra stiff. Thanks to the extra stiffness, you can make speed more easily and it is also easier to maintain the speed you have achieved. The double chambers also provide extra buoyancy, making the Paddle Board more stable and, finally, more maneuverable. A double chamber Stand Up Paddle Board is therefore not only for the paddler who sups on rough waters, but also for the paddler who expects the best features from a SUP.
